Founded in Stevens Point, WI in the summer of 2010, the Mid-State Sisters of Skate immediately set their sights on becoming a competitive, well-run roller derby league with a focus on fostering skaters’ personal growth and community service in the Central Wisconsin area.
From that first batch of skaters, the league has grown to encompass two teams, including an All-Star team that has earned the respect of their peers, and is ranked with the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
Since hosting the first game in 2011 at Arnott Lion’s Park, MSSOS has sought out competitive match ups which have challenged skater’s skills, knowledge of the sport, and tested their physical and emotional limits.
In 2012, a team of MSSOS skaters participated in one of the Midwest’s largest tournaments, Brewhaha, in Milwaukee. Four annual Uff-Da-Palooza tournaments hosted by MSSOS have brought teams from across the country, and from Canada, to play roller derby in Central Wisconsin.
We continuously recruit and train new skaters as well as help veterans maintain and expand their skills and stay healthy and safe through a partnership with Advanced Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
MSSOS is a 501(c)3, dedicated to community service and returning the support of their fans and sponsors. Members of MSSOS are required to participate in community service projects. The league donates a portion of ticket sales to other local non-profit organizations that share our goal of making the Central Wisconsin community a better place to live.
The league is entirely skater run and is led by a dedicated Board of Directors. The league has donated thousands of dollars in total to organizations like Operation Bootstrap, Humane Society of Portage County, CAP Services Family Crisis Shelter, Central Rivers Farmshed, Project Lifesaver, and Ministry Breast Care Center.
MSSOS has come a long way in nine years. We continue to serve our community and the sport of roller derby with spirit and determination and look forward to the next five years.
