About MSRD

The mission of Mid-State Roller Derby (MSRD) is to empower and foster the personal growth of individuals through the sport of roller derby, volunteerism, and service in the Central Wisconsin community.

Founded in Stevens Point, WI in 2010, MSRD is a competitively ranked, inclusive roller derby league. MSRD is a skater owned and operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and member of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA), the international governing body of roller derby.

Mid-State Roller Derby is committed to empowering and supporting diversity amongst our members and community. In 2022, we updated our name and logo (previously Mid-State Sisters of Skate) to reflect our commitment to athleticism and inclusivity. We provide a challenging and rewarding space to build community and give back.

Fostering Growth

We continuously recruit and train new skaters, in addition to helping experienced skaters maintain and expand their skills. Skaters stay healthy and safe through a partnership with Advanced Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

Community Outreach

MSRD is dedicated to giving back to the community and working towards making the Central Wisconsin community a better place to live.

Community Service

Members are required to participate in community service projects.

Financial Support

A portion of ticket sales are donated to other local non-profit organizations.

Tournaments

MSRD began hosting Central Wisconsin’s only flat-track roller derby tournament in 2015.  Uff Da Palooza tournaments bring over 7 teams from across North America to play roller derby in Wausau, WI every year.

Board of Directors

MSRD’s Board of Directors are elected annually to help manage the league.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Mid-State Roller Derby strives to create a positive environment and treat each other with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation in any of its activities or operations. All individuals are welcome in roller derby.

Land Acknowledgment

Mid-State Roller Derby practices and competes on Ho-Chunk land. Ho-Chunk is one of the two First Nations of Wisconsin, and one of the 11 federally recognized tribal nations in our state. After attempts to ethnically cleanse the Ho-Chunk from Wisconsin between 1832-1874, some of the Ho-Chunk Nation’s ancestral land was later recognized in treaties between the United States and the Ho-Chunk Nation.

Today, Mid-State Roller Derby respects the inherent sovereignty of the Ho-Chunk Nation and the other First Nations of Wisconsin and is inspired by its kinship.

Join us in respecting the region’s rich and complex history, and recognizing these Nations’ truths.
