Intro to Roller Derby


Flat track roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact team sport played on roller skates.

Game Overview

There are two 30-minute halves per game, and during those halves, as many jams are held as the clock will allow. Jams can last up to two minutes and players get a 30-second break between jams.

Players

Five players from each team are on the track during jams.

Blockers

Four players are blockers, and they try to stop the opposing team’s jammer while helping their jammer. They are constantly transitioning between offense and defense.

Jammers

One player is the jammer, they wear a star on their helmet and try to lap opposing blockers to score.
